Visitor/early class

Hello all.  I just wanted to give you heads up.  We will have a visitor in our class this Thursday.

Osumi Yukie is a Japanese metalware artist. She applies the traditional technique of “nunome-zogan” or textile imprint inlay. This involves hammering metal leaf or wire into a fine, mesh-like grid incised into the surface of metal. In her vessels she conveys a sense of nature which is form-less and flowing. Her works are in the public collections such as The National Museum of Modern  Art, Tokyo, Victoria & Albert Museum, London and The Royal Museum, Edinburgh.

In July, the  Japanese government designated Ms. Osumi as the Holder of an Intangible Cultural Property (“Living National Treasure”) for her technique of metalwork inlay. She is the first woman to receive this honor in the field of metalwork.

Osumi will lecture for about an hour then possibly have Q&A.  After he lecture we will start working on our bowls.

I will have to leave early on Thursday because I am lecturing at MIT.  Jackie will be in class to help when I leave.  We should get in a good couple of hours before that.  Please use this time wisely to start working on your bowls.
